Common Question: What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Lymphatic drainage massage is a specialized technique that focuses on getting the lymphatic system of the body flowing. Without the use of oil, the therapists uses a very light short strokes following the lymphatic system, and thus assisting the body to rid itself of excess fluids (edema) as well as some of the body's waste products. It is excellent as part of a detoxifying and/or anti-aging routine. This removal of toxins can also have the effect of reducing pain in people w reduced activity due to chronic pain.
Lymphatic massage is also particularly good for people who have persistent swelling from fluid retention, such as during pregnancy, or post surgery once the surgical site has healed enough so that there will be no bleeding. Lymphatic drainage after this point can actually reduce bruising.
Lymphatic drainage massage should not be done if the person has a fever or acute inflammation, thrombosis, major cardiac problems, or malignancies.
After getting this type of massage, it is important that you try to rest and not move around too much for as long as possible, up to a few hours.
